Home Maintenance Monday 11/25/24
Are you getting ready to host a Thanksgiving feast this week or traveling for the occasion? Here’s a super quick, but often missed home maintenance task for you this week that’s good to do whether you’re staying home or traveling!
A smoke/carbon monoxide detector hangs from the ceiling… is it operational?
It is recommended to check your carbon monoxide and smoke detectors 1x/month, if it’s been awhile since you’ve checked yours’, now is the perfect time! Simply locate your alarms and press the button on the front of the alarm until it sounds. Press the button again to turn off the alarm sound. If the alarm does not sound, the detector is faulty and needs to be replaced.
Carbon Monoxide and Smoke alarms should be on each level of your home, including the basement, and within 10’ of any bedroom doors or any attached garage space. Alarm batteries should be replaced at least 1x/year and the alarms themselves will need to be replaced every 5-10 years. There are many combination detectors available on the market now, consider looking for a combination C02 and Smoke alarm if you are looking to replace a defunct alarm.
Stay safe this winter!
